Club members donate winnings

BRYANSTON – According to general manager Paul Leishman, the country club recognises the important role that it can play in the community.

What was intended to be a routine prize draw at the Bryanston Country Club (BCC) on January 28 resulted in a room full of tears as the winning table donated its winnings to a retiring staff member.

Upon winning the club’s January prize draw, club member Julian Thorrold and his table agreed to donate their R27 000 winning to retiring waiter Simon Ndlovu.

Ndlovu has been a waiter at the country club since 1985. His main role has been looking after the bowls sections and assisting the banqueting section of the club.

In his farewell speech, Ndlovu said that not only was it a privilege to be part of the country club but it was a part of his life that he would never forget. “The BCC has always and will forever be my second home and the people [there] will be my family.

“With those words, I would like you all to know what goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes because for those who love with their heart and soul, there is no such thing as separation.”

According to general manager Paul Leishman, the country club recognises the important role that it can play in the community. “We are incredibly grateful and proud of the community spirit and support that we receive from our members all the time.

“During the tough times during Covid-19, our members donated over R1.5 million to caddies and staff that would have otherwise been destitute.”

BCC Charity Foundation also continues to do incredible work for the community.
