Soccer fun at Wanderers

Girls and boys from U6 to U15 can come and play 5-a-side every Sunday from 9am to 11am.

The past few Sundays at Discovery Soccer Park Wanderers were fun and fiery.
Children were laughing and interacting on and off the soccer field with all Covid-19 protocols in place.

Founder of the Discovery Soccer Park, Moira Valkin said it was great to be able to hear the sound of children’s laughter and watch them on the field after such a long time.

Girls and boys from U6 to U15 can come and play 5-a-side every Sunday from 9am to 11am. The games will be played until December and all children are welcome to join in on the fun. With something to look forward to, the child with the most points on the last day will be named king of the park.

Valkin added that soccer was such a loved game and enabling children to play was a gift.

“They can take this with them wherever they are and they can play and enjoy it from a young age. Soccer decimates racial, religious, gender or any other cultural boundaries. Getting children fit and healthy as well as being able to connect with friends, new or old, should be a passageway to physical and emotional recovery.”

She said due to the pandemic worldwide, research showed that the risk of contracting Covid-19 while playing soccer in the open-air was low because contact between players was so minimal.

“At Discovery Soccer Park we have started coaching on a very controlled level and from last week, apart from our adult leagues all weeknights, we started matches for kids. The jubilation of the kids and the coaches on being reunited, and having such pure fun, has been palpable and a memory I will take with me forever.”
