Business analyst by day and professional race car driver by night, 28-year-old Jonathan Mogotsi continues to live his childhood dream in the fast lane.

The Bryanston resident took his love for virtual racing to the next level, a transition which has greatly paid off as the young driver was recently announced as the new addition to the Dunlop team as an ambassador.

According to Riaz Haffejee, CEO of tyre manufacturer Sumitomo Dunlop, the Mogotsi name will soon be heard nationwide. “Not only is he a passionate driver, he has recognised that he has people that look up to him and as such he has a responsibility to educate the public on tyre safety,” said Haffejee.

Mogotsi has ticked off a number of achievements in his racing career in the past few years, which include becoming a professional driver for Volkswagen (VW) and representing the team in the VW Polo Cup for the past three years. “If you had told me as a kid that not only would I be a racing driver, but an ambassador for the one of the most world renowned tyre manufacturers, I would have told you to get out,” said Mogotsi.

When he is not on the track, Mogotsi’s favourite off duty pastime is to get into his car and drive through the city at night with the windows wound down and the music turned off. “It is important to remember to keep racetrack shenanigans to the racetrack. Obey the law and stick to safe driving on the road please.”

Mogotsi hopes to encourage others to think beyond themselves and care about those around them. “Please practise social distancing, wear protective equipment and sanitise regularly. Avoid unnecessary contact where possible. When you hit the road, check your tyres and ensure they have sufficient pressure and tread wear.” concluded.
