Fat Cats run for the whole family

Hosting their Second Annual Fat Cats 10km Race, it's one for the whole family from wherever you are.

If you’ve managed to the catch fitness bug going around then you’re in luck.

One of South Africa’s fastest-growing road running clubs, Fat Cats Athletic Club is going virtual this year.  Hosting their Second Annual Fat Cats 10km Race, it’s one for the whole family from wherever you are.  Sandton area race director and race marketer Shamanga Ilunga told us all about it.

“You know the race talks about being something for the whole family and it doesn’t have to be individual races but everyone doing it together,” said Ilunga.  Having run five Comrade Marathons himself, Ilunga mentioned that the annual Fat Cats 10km race would cater to everyone.

Taking place on 11 October, families can decide to do the 10km, 5km Fun Run, Nappy Dash (250m) and/or Kitten Miler (1.6km). Walkers can join in too.  Runners from all over the world can run anytime between 6am and 6pm on the day. Every participant will have to time their run and then submit it manually onto the Finish time website.

“This is an opportunity for us to showcase that as a club, if you run well and if you really want to, you can motivate others to be part of a healthy lifestyle too.”  With Corporate Social Investment being the main pillar of their movement, Ilunga noted that the club prided itself on giving back to communities. “This year specifically it’s about what you will be doing through running. The race will help put together a fund that will be used to help alleviate pressure for schoolchildren who are adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
