Bryanston Sports Club takes care of its staff

Staff at Bryanston Sports Club have been well taken care of with food hampers and monetary donations provided by the community.

The club is a non-govermental organisation that has not had it easy under the lockdown, explained club chairperson, Warren Davies.”We are a sports club without golf so we do not have the cash that some clubs have, but we have been blown away by the generosity of our members and the community,” he said.

“It’s enough to bring tears to your eyes. We asked our members who could pay for July ahead of the time, even though only tennis is currently running, to do so, and many of them did. This was to keep the club maintained and our staff paid.” He said the club’s committee meets weekly with staff members to discuss their needs and how they can help.

The result was an initiative to donate monthly food hampers to staff members, which has been extremely successful. “The call for donations of food, or money to go towards the food, started with our club members but went out to the community and it has deone very well,” Davies added.

Furthermore, the club started hosting lucky draws where people could buy tickets for the draw. At the end of the month the proceeds would be divided into two, with half going to staff and half going to the winner of the draw.”We have had this for two months now and the first month we raised R40 000 and the second month R35 000. One time, the winner decided to give half of their earnings back to the staff so it was even more special.”

Davies thanked the community for their support and said he looked forward to when the other sports could reopen.
