Reaching new heights with Grant Lottering and his 24-hour cycle challenge

SANDTON – Completing his first 24-hour challenge in 2018 in the Alpe d'Huez in France, the 52-year-old hopes to inspire many other cyclists to take on the challenge.

Motivational speaker and ultra-endurance cyclist Grant Lottering hopes to make the dreams of children a reality.

In October later this year Lottering will embark on a 24-hour cycle challenge on the Swartberg Pass, aiming to summit the pass as many times as possible while raising funds for the Reach For A Dream Foundation. Completing his first 24-hour challenge in 2018 in the Alpe d’Huez in France, the 52-year-old hopes to inspire many other cyclists to take on the challenge.

“I got the idea to call it the #24hourchallenge, riding 24 hours non-stop in aid of your chosen charity. The target [was] to ride as far as possible or to climb as high as possible in that one single non-stop 24-hour ride,” he said.  Not only will he aim to fulfil the dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses but Lottering also hopes to set a South African record for the highest elevation gain in a single 24-hour ride.

“Starting at 11am on 30 October, I will ride the pass up and down from the Prince Albert side to finish on 31 October at 11am. The gravel climb is 12km in length and the elevation gain 940m,” he said.  Each summit will allow Lottering to fulfil a dream. “The more times I reach the summit in the 24 hours, the more dreams we can fulfil.”

Business head at Reach For A Dream, Natalie Lazaris, noted that not only is Lottering a friend of the foundation but he is an inspiration, “The epitome of what the foundation believes strength is about.”After surviving cancer and a life-threatening crash while training for the World Championships back in 2013, Lottering has vowed to continue to put his mental and physical boundaries to the test.”

The fact that he is willing to overcome another obstacle and another challenge in aid of Reach For A Dream, shows the character that he is. He understands the challenges that life can throw at you but he also understands the challenges our dreamers face every single day living with a life-threatening illness,” Lazaris added.

Reach For A Dream would like to appeal to the community and corporate businesses to get involved and support the cause. You can follow the challenge on Grant Lottering’s Facebook page.
