Transition Football waives fees, sells face masks to raise funds

SANDTON – The children have loved the training but missed the competition element of the game.

As Transition Football enters its second month of online training, it can look back on what has worked best to provide quality training sessions to its players.

It has also made its content free, requesting those who can to purchase Transition Football face masks in order to keep the club running. Every week, the Bryanston soccer club provides its players with one online video session and a PDF document outlining it. There are also two live Instagram training sessions and two team group sessions per week.

“We have heavily focused on the technical and conditioning side of the game,” said coach Claudio Lorenzani.

“This is for all our players from ages five to 19 but with different intensity levels. It has also kept a few coaches on their toes and we are even keeping very fit.” He said the club will soon host “match days” against their clubs and play in a virtual league on weekends.

“The children have loved the training but missed the competition element of the game. This is where our very own virtual league has come in. I can’t give too much away but if it’s anything like the online training programme, players and parents will love it.” Lorenzani said coaches have seen great improvements in the players following the programme so far. Also, keeping fit has the bonus of boosting their immune systems. “We have been heavily affected by the virus and have voided all fees for our parents and members. This hasn’t been an easy decision but we want to show them the same support they have shown us since our start. What we have done to raise funds is create our very own Transition Football masks which we have sold to our families and members of the public.”

He asked people who were not part of the club before lockdown especially, to buy a mask or two and he would be happy to load them on to the Zoom sessions for a month.
