Hyde Park gears up for winter sports

HYDE PARK – Hyde Park High School gears up for the upcoming winter sports season with all new captains.

Hyde Park High is set to take on the upcoming winter sports season with its newly elected first team captains.

Ahead of the first derby day which took place on 7 March against Bryanston High School, the captains for the first rugby, netball and hockey teams were announced during assembly.

According to the school’s spokesperson Avril Wright, the nominated sports captains take their role very seriously. “[They] are highly respected members of the school’s 1st team, showing leadership, sportsmanship and skill in their chosen sport.”

Maggie Mazibuko is set to captain the girls’ hockey team, Refilwe Sedi will captain the netball team, Jared van der Pol will captain the boys’ hockey team and Killian Ibbetson will captain the rugby team.

Killian expressed his surprise and joy at his election, adding that he really looks forward to his tenure of representing and leading the school’s rugby team.
