Morningside kicks off women’s bowls tournament

MORNINGSIDE – Morningside Country Club hosted the first game of the Ladies Senior Bowls Tournament.

 


A number of senior women took in the spring atmosphere on 23 October when the Morningside Country Club hosted the first of six matches set to take place for the inaugural Ladies Senior Bowls Tournament.

Women from Parktown, Bryanston, Morningside, Linden, Roosevelt Park and the surrounding areas came out to represent their bowling clubs and show off their skills.

“It is wonderful to see everyone come together especially because this is the first event like this that we are hosting for only women,” said Jacqueline Lauder, representative of the senior ladies bowling club at Morningside Country Club. According to Lauder, initially on the men would compete.

The six-week tournament takes place every Wednesday and at the end of the tournament one club will be crowned the winner.

“We are trying to get more people involved in bowls. Even young people can play you know, it isn’t a game just for the old people,” Lauder smiled.
