Bryanston’s Sikho Nqothole records 8th knockout at Young Gladiators

BRYANSTON – Local junior bantamweight boxer records his eighth technical knockout at the Young Gladiators event.

Sikho ‘Sequence’ Nqothole again beat his opponent by technical knockout at the latest Young Gladiators boxing event.

The Bryanston junior bantamweight fighter recorded his 12th win in his 14th professional fight. This against Thulani Gumede at the 10th Young Gladiators event in Blairgowrie on 14 July.

A capacity crowd watched in awe as Nqothole knocked out an opponent for the eighth time in his professional boxing career, as early as the second round of the fight.

Nqothole now has won 66 per cent of his fights through knocking his opponent out and is gaining a reputation as a hard hitter.

“Sikho was number five in South African rankings and now moves to third,” said a proud coach, Alan Toweel.

“Maybe we will have another eight rounder some time and then see about a title fight.”

Nqothole’s training under Toweel has seen him fight many bouts and climb the boxing rankings ladder in just a few short years.

He won his first 11 fights in just two years, while many professional boxers struggle to schedule four fights in a year, let alone win them all.

As his fame and ranking improved, Nqothole’s opposition got harder and he lost two fights. Now he seems to have found form again.

Toweel said the 11th Young Gladiators event would be held in October. There is every chance in the world if Nqothole does not have another fight around that time that he will feature at the event.

Nqothole’s boxing fans will be eagerly waiting for another tough fight, or if not, at least a thrilling knockout of his opponent.
