Community members had a blast when Bryanston Sports Club hosted a fun day on its squash courts.
The free event on 2 March saw 35 people take part in singles and doubles tournaments. They also enjoyed free boerewors rolls and drinks, and prizes were given to winners.
“It was great to allow the community to see our club,” said Clive Williams, a club committee member.
“It was especially nice to see the doubles section won by visitors. We also had a woman who had never played squash before and she had so much fun that she is now joining the club.”
Wiliams said the event was a good opportunity to show off the club’s facilities. These include newly-sanded squash court floors, change rooms and showers, squash shop and drinks fridge.
“We have been very successful. We are one of the most profitable sections in the club.”
Williams explained that this is because, in addition to the leagues the club competes in, the club also hosts very popular social days and events.
Every Saturday morning from 11am, an Egoli Squash coach provides free coaching to children from the age of 10 and up. Free social squash sessions for adults then follow at 2pm.
Williams encouraged anyone interested to come play at the club. All that is required are non-marking shoes. The courts also see the Bryanston High School, St Peter’s College and Vuleka School teams practise during the week.
Last but not least, the club is also home to racquetball.
