Montrose Night Challenge kicks off week four

PARKMORE – Although many previous matches had been rained out, all the cricket and netball fixtures took place without a hitch.


A wet few weeks have not put a damper on the Montrose Night Challenge hosted at Montrose Primary School in Parkmore.

On 15 February, learners from schools around Johannesburg gathered to participate in the fourth week of the challenge. Despite a rainy week, the cricket and netball fixtures were played, with the rain only beginning after the matches had been completed. The night series features 44 teams and more than 450 cricket and netball players from schools around Johannesburg.

There were four cricket matches played on this day.

In the first match, Crawford Lonehill and Redhill played against each other with Crawford Lonehill after posting 145 runs in their 20 overs. The Sportsmans Warehouse Man of the Match was awarded to Camagu Nkhulu for bowling figures of 4/10 in three overs. The DJ Coaching Hero of the Match was awarded to Rhydian Evans for bowling figures of 4/18 in four overs.

In the second match of the day, Beaulieu faced off against the KPT Lions. The KPT Lions won the match in 13.3 overs for the loss of two wickets. The Sportsmans Warehouse Man of the Match was awarded to Giovanni Joseph for bowling figures of 4/16 in four overs and scoring 44 runs not out. The DJ Coaching Hero of the Match was awarded to Pranay Tailor for bowling figures of 1/1 in three overs.

The third game of the afternoon saw Bryanston Primary School face off against Alex Schools XI. Alex Schools XI won the match in10.1 overs. The Sportsmans Warehouse Man of the Match was awarded to Kabelo Rapodile for taking a brilliant catch on the boundary and bowling figures of 4/20 in four overs. The DJ Coaching Hero of the Match was awarded to Sipho Potsane for scoring 23 runs not out.

In the final match of the afternoon Rivonia Primary School played against Bryneven Primary School. Rivonia scored 250/3 in their 20 overs and won the match. Sportsmans Warehouse Man of the Match was awarded to Savar Deeplaul for scoring 131 runs not out. The DJ Coaching Hero of the Match was Oliver Scholz for scoring 82 runs not out.

On the afternoon the leading wicket-taker was Kabelo Rapodile and the leading run-scorer was Savar Deeplaul.

Meanwhile, in the U11 netball fixtures, Bryandale Primary School had a successful afternoon winning four of their matches. Redhill School also won four matches and Beaulieu College won three matches. Montrose is currently at the top of the log with 46 points followed by Bryandale Primary School and Redhill School with 37 and 30 points respectively.

In the open netball fixtures, Montrose won four matches with mixed results from other schools. Montrose is currently on the top of the log in the open netball fixtures with 49 points in total. In second and third position are Bryandale Primary School and Redhill School with 33 points and 27 points respectively.

Game 1: Crawford Sandton vs Bryanston

Game 2: Crawford Fourways vs Bryneven

Game 3: KPT Lions vs Bryandale

Game 4: Montrose vs Crawford Lonehill
