Harder, better, faster, stronger

ILLOVO – Wanderers Rugby Club is ahead of where it was in its programme last year.

Wanderers Rugby Club’s first friendly matches of the season are just weeks away, and the players are more than ready for them.

“We are measuring ourselves against our programme last year and we are doing even better,” said the club’s head coach, Neil Kalify.

He added that training week in and week out was focused on strength and conditioning. Wanderers’ 1st team finished top of the Golden Lions Rugby Union league last year but was then deducted five points for the U19 team missing a game, thus being relegated to second and having the trophy taken from them.

Kalify does not just want his 1st team to win the league this year but finish with even better results against their rivals than they did last year.

“We had a very good season last year and we want to improve and do even better.”

He said this would require reaching a new level of strength and fitness and achieving certain milestones they set for themselves, such as staying ahead of the training programme they had last year.

“We have a core specialist to help us strengthen the core of the body. We are also starting to establish the rugby blueprint and structure we want for this year.”

The coach said his players were training very hard but were also happy and motivated for the upcoming season.
