Saints prepares to host U16 basketball tournament #SchoolSport

LYME PARK – The St Stithians basketball team won the American International School Basketball Tournament which fares them well ahead of the St Stithians Basketball Tournament.

The St Stithians Boys’ College Open 1st team won the American International School Basketball Tournament this past weekend. The team was captained by the head boy at the school, Andrew Jackson.

The results for the tournament were as follows:

  • St Stithians Boys’ College 1st Team Basketball:
  • 42–22 win v American School International Cape Town
  • 49–22 win vs Bishop Bavin
  • 36–36 draw vs African Leadership Academy
  • Quarterfinal 47–37 win vs Michael Mount
  • Semi-final 48–44 win vs AISJ
  • Final 46–38 win vs St Benedicts.

This is a great result for St Stithians basketball ahead of hosting the St Stithians College Basketball U16 Tournament which is hosted from 15 to 17 February. The college will host the prestigious tournament for the second consecutive year. Basketball is a fast-growing sport in South Africa, particularly at school level.

Twenty-four teams from across South Africa will be competing in the tournament as well as a few international teams. Last year the school hosted the tournament for the first time and the three days of basketball were action-packed. The tournament winner will be chosen through a series of competitive pool games with the finalists competing against each other on the 17th.
