The Crawford College Sandton U16 boys’ soccer team is this year’s Independent Schools’ Soccer League (ISSL) champions.
Their victory came after a hard-fought battle against Marion Brothers Linmeyer in the final at the Randburg Football Club with Crawford emerging 2–1 winners.
The school congratulated the team on a successful season that was capped off with the trophy. Charles Smith, director of sport at Crawford College Sandton said the team had a phenomenal year.
“Coming second in the pool meant playing in the semi-final round against a determined opponent, Saint Barnaba’s College,” he said.
He added that they overcame that obstacle with a convincing 4–1 win. In the final, Crawford’s Daron Bauman scored from a penalty in the first half to give his team a 1–0 lead at the break.
“Lynden Ntsubane then put them further in the lead with a superb goal in the second half,” added Smith.
Their opponents pulled one back with 15 minutes to go setting up a thrilling final quarter.
“The team fought gallantly triumphing in the end with a 2–1 victory and the crown of ISSL league winners for 2018.”
