Bregman is still living the dream

MORNINGSIDE – Stacy Bregman surrounds herself with supportive people and toughens her resolve to deal with disappointments and improve her golf.

Professional golfer, Stacy Bregman only spends three months a year at her home in Morningside, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

It has been over 10 years since Bregman played golf for a living, and she has a stack of local wins and top finishes in Europe under her belt.

But five months after winning the Canon Ladies Tshwane Open in January, Bregman told the Sandton Chronicle that a win in Europe still eluded her – one of the major stepping stones to her dream of playing (and winning) at the women’s major golf championships.

However, Bregman is still having the time of her life.

“I love travelling the world, eating new food and meeting new people,” she said. “Golf is the best thing in the world and this is a dream come true for me.”

However, Bregman also warned of the downsides to playing professional golf, stating that all the travelling can make you lonely and the inevitable disappointments of not performing well can get you down.

It was in between Symetra Tour events in America, that Bregman came home to South Africa for two weeks in May.

“It is possible to lose the joy of golf if you play too much, and you do need breaks. I’m starting to know what works best for me [in terms of taking breaks].”

Being sponsored by Investec, Bregman travels and stays with one or two teammates at a time, which does help.

She said surrounding herself with supportive people and toughening up her own resolve, have helped her deal with disappointments and learn from them.

Bregman promised to only stop playing golf when she stops enjoying it, but she never wants to.
