Cricket record smashed after 48 years

SANDTON – A first team cricket player of Hyde Park High School recently broke the school's record for most runs.

The record for the most runs scored in a cricket season at Hyde Park High School was set in 1970 by former Transvaal batsman Jimmy Cook, a record which has stood for 48 years.

Cook scored 697 runs that season which included three centuries.

Now, first team batsman Andrew Ingman has recently broken that record by hitting a third consecutive century, taking his tally to 750 runs and four centuries this season with one game left.

The record-breaking century came against Randpark High School in which Andrew scored 159 not out.

Earlier this month, Andrew also hit the highest individual first team score ever achieved at the school after his 228 against Kings School Bryanston.

The principal of the school, Manolis Vogiatzis acknowledged the achievements of Andrew and fellow first team player Jianni Tsinonis at an assembly. Jianni was commended for his 103 against Greenside High School and Andrew for his record-breaking feats.

“It is exceptional and gives the school great pride to acknowledge that in the past two weeks these two cricketers achieved the dream of every batsman – to score 100 runs or more in an innings and this milestone was achieved five times,” he said.
