Don’t miss out: Supreme fight night in Rivonia

RIVONIA – If you like kickboxing, then you had better be in Rivonia come the Supreme Fighting League

Kickboxing fans will have a feast of fists and feet when the second Supreme Fighting League hits the ring at The Barnyard Theatre Rivonia.

Ten of South Africa’s best kickboxers will roll with the punches on 2 March for a chance to compete at Glory Kickboxing events, which is seen as the largest kickboxing promotion in the world.

“Kickboxing on an amateur level is massive in South Africa, but we need to grow the professional platform,” said league matchmaker, Morné Lotter.

“This event begins our plan to build promotions which offer international exposure for professional athletes, and grow the sport throughout Africa and to the international stage.”

One of the five fights will see experienced mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and kickboxer, Ruan Erasmus, clash with Justin Clarke for the K1 title belt.

Clarke recently competed in the World Kickboxing Championships, while Erasmus can boast an MMA record of 34 wins and two losses.

Rami ‘Pitbull’ Mungul will also fight Karl ‘Baywatch’ Bergemann.

Mungul is on a nine-fight winning streak. He will be making his professional debut against the experienced Bergemann, who is a multiple SA champion and has an undefeated K1 record of five wins.

Next up, Brandon ‘The Ultimate Warrior’ Mashele will take on Thabo ‘The Natural’ Chauke. At the previous event, Mashele put up a dominating performance, displaying a high level of skill and an entertaining style of fighting.

In the women’s corner, two South African champions face off in a fast-paced fight, with Sozette du Plessis and Jackie Brits taking up the challenge. Du Plessis’s first senior fight at this event will set her up for a successful kickboxing career.

Then, the powerful Mari van der Linde and SA champion Catherine Tupling will take their point-fighting and light-contact experience to the full contact arena. Tupling won a bronze medal at the World Association of Kickboxing Associations World Championships last year. But Van der Linde will be a tough match as she brings power and an aggressive fighting style to the mix.

Doors will open at 6pm and the event kicks off at 7pm. Visit www.barnyardtheatre.co.za for more information on ticket prices.
