Who’s up for bowls?

MORNINGSIDE – Night bowls, barefoot bowls and even B20 bowls are some of the additions to Morningside Country Club.

The bowls section at Morningside Country Club is changing things up a bit.

New formats of playing the age-old game of lawn bowls, and a partnership with Curro Rivonia school, among others, are keeping the sport alive and well and changing the focus of the club to more youth-centric.

“Bowls is a great game with a nice environment,” said Rob Zimmermann, chairperson of bowls at the club.

“There is no limit on the age you can play, and it is not too tough physically but still [provides] exercise.”

Zimmermann stressed the social aspect of the game and the fact that the club had a braai area and fully kitted pub with a TV as further reasons to come try the sport out.

And if you do not want to play in the glorious sunshine, then try your hand at night bowls. Then, if you really want to spice things up, there is barefoot bowls and even a form of the sport that incorporates T20 cricket (B20 bowls).

Zimmermann encouraged anyone interested in finding out more about bowls in Morningside to contact the club and have a go.

“Bowls is a sport for everyone.”
