Bryanston parkrun will celebrate their 200th event at the beautiful Riverside Park on 18 November.

Parkrun volunteers invite members of the public to come along and share in the exciting surprises awaiting runners at this milestone event. Parkrun organiser and chairman of the Bryanston East Community Forum, Ian Tumiel said the event was started three years ago to encourage the community to make use of their green spaces and foster a sense of camaraderie and community.

After members of the forum cleaned up the under-utilised space along the Braamfontein Spruit, the parkrun seemed like a brilliant way to get the Bryanston community outdoors to enjoy the green space.

What began with just 200 runners at their first event has grown to attract 1 200 runners to the popular event across 5kms of the greenbelt.

Tumiel said the parkrun had not only forged a greater sense of community among those who regularly attended the event but also encouraged people to take ownership of the event and volunteer their time to assist regularly.

He added that the event had encouraged more community members to make use of the beautiful park opposite the Riverside Shopping Centre other than just on a Saturday.

Community members volunteer on a regular basis to keep the Bryanston parkrun running smoothly.
