Annual tournament at Mascon Dojo

SANDTON – The Mascon Dojo recently hosted their annual karate tournament.

The Mascon Dojo, under sensei Gary McLean, recently hosted their annual tournament in their 25th birthday month.

McLean is the chief instructor and teaches mixed martial arts and specialises in teaching children aged four to 16 years old.

Mixed martial arts builds confidence, discipline, character, sense of self-esteem and self-worth not to mention the success that follows hard work through gradings and tournaments.

At the tournament, Maximilian van Heerden was the best senior in his age group of U15, winning two gold medals and one bronze.

Scarlett Calder was crowned the best junior between ages four and six years old. She won two gold medals in two different age groups.

The dojo follows the five maxims of:

  • Seek perfection of character
  • Be faithful and sincere
  • Endeavour – effort
  • Respect others – etiquette
  • Refrain from violent behaviour – self- control.
