Proteas women’s cricket team to rise to the challenge
ENGLAND - The Proteas women's cricket team are rising to their strengths as they take on the world at the International Cricket Council Women's World Cup in England.
The Proteas women’s cricket team are currently playing in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Cricket World Cup in England.
The team is ranked 6th among the eight teams participating in the World Cup.
So far, the Momentum Proteas have beaten Pakistan and the West Indies and lost to England. Their game against New Zealand was washed out. They will still play India, Sri Lanka and Australia in the round robin stage of the tournament until 15 July.
In South Africa, the players are rising as role models, national heroes and inspirational sporting champions.
The team launched their first television commercial recently which celebrated the sport, the team and every young girl who keeps rising to the challenge.
The message of the commercial is to encourage the team and South African girls to rise to the challenge and be victorious. The team is made up of women from all walks of life, including a player who is in Grade 11 and a mother of a young child.
The message from the team is that from a young age, they have been relentless in taking their innate talent for cricket and fostering their potential. Their daily discipline and practising has shone through for the country and now for the world to see.
They use the hashtag #AlwaysRising to prove that they are willing to meet the challenge and go beyond it.
Team captain Dané van Niekerk said, “We know what we’re made of. We have worked really hard to prepare for the World Cup in England and we’re incredibly proud to represent our country and our badge.
“We want to be able to inspire women and girls of all ages through our work and the manner in which we go about it. As a team, we just want to keep getting better and to make sure that the women’s game in South Africa is always rising.”
