Entries are open for the 2017 FNB Joburg 10km CityRun

JOBURG – The FNB Joburg 10km CityRun is open for entries to this explorative race through the iconic City of Gold.

Entries are open for Johannesburg’s iconic Heritage Day celebration, the FNB Joburg 10km CityRun on 24 September.

Celebrating its 2nd anniversary this year, the race will start at FNB Bank City in Johannesburg and entrants will be guided on a 10km journey that celebrates the rich heritage of the City of Gold before crossing the finish line at the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown.

“The race attracted an unprecedented 11 200 entrants in 2016. This is no small feat for an inaugural event,” said Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports, organisers of the race.

“While the race embraces the sport of road running, it also celebrates the unique history of Johannesburg and supports the regeneration of this vibrant city. Runners will share the streets with world class athletes and we encourage these runners to savour the moment, enjoy the on-route activations and vibe while exploring their city.”

Themba Mabizela, provincial head of FNB Business in Gauteng south and central said,”We like the fact that this race ventures into the vibrancy and energy of the inner city of Johannesburg. Now in its second year, the race promises to gain popularity in and outside of South Africa.”

Some of the iconic landmarks to look out for on the route will include the Nelson Mandela Bridge, FNB Bank City, Constitution Hill, Mary Fitzgerald Square, Wits University, Neighbourgoods Market and Ellis Park Stadium, to mention just a few.
