A new face for Sandton Sports Club

SANDTON – The Sandton Sports Club is undergoing some major changes.

The Sandton Sports Club is well on its way to receiving a complete makeover.

In the Sandton Chronicle article, Sandton Sports Club to get revamp, Week ending 20 January, the future aspirations of the club was discussed. When the Sandton Chronicle visited the sports club on 25 January, it was clear that these future plans were forging ahead.

Gia Sinclair, one of the club’s board members said, “This is going to be a big build and is a work in progress. The fields will be run by a company that will manage it, and teenagers and adults can join the soccer league and take part in the matches.”

Renovations are currently underway on the soccer fields. Sinclair added that these fields could also be used for corporate team building events.

“D-day for the soccer field is 1 March and we aim to be done with the sided soccer facilities in May. A mini clubhouse will also be constructed for the soccer players to use and enjoy.”

Sinclair stressed that the makeover has been a dream for the club for a long time. The newest committee took over last year and is currently focusing on both soccer and tennis.

The soccer facilities at the Sandton Sports Club are in the process of being upgraded.

“Tennis coaching lessons are also available here and children can come and join from a young age. There is also coaching available for semi-professional players. The coaching team has sourced funding to resurface all of the courts to get them to international tournament standards.”

The club also endeavours to build a grandstand. All eight of the tennis courts will also have lights so that members can play tennis late at night.

The sports club also fulfils the needs of a few surrounding schools. “Schools in the area are popping up and they do have the opportunity to use our facilities if needed.”

There have been requests for other, alternative sports such as frisbee and the club’s committee is also working on building a new 50m pool in the future. There are evidently still a lot of changes that need to be made, and community members are urged to get involved and assist the committee in any way possible.
