Montrose Night Challenge targets youth

SANDTON/FOURWAYS – The Spur Montrose Night Challenge gives schoolchildren the opportunity to participate in the only inter-primary cricket challenge of its kind.

 

A fun challenge has been set for the youth in Sandton, Bryanston, Fourways and surrounding areas at at Montrose Primary School in Parkmore.

The Spur Montrose Night Challenge gives school-goers the opportunity to participate in the only inter-primary school day and night challenge of its kind. The event, which includes cricket and netball matches, runs for seven weeks starting from 27 January and supporters are welcome.

The night challenge has been running successfully for 14 years and is supported by Cricket South Africa and the Gauteng Cricket Board. The aim of the event is to develop sports within the country and to nurture talent among these primary schoolchildren.

The aim of the challenge is to develop cricket within the country.

The event has grown from strength to strength each year and its continued growth and support from sponsors such as Spur have ensured that the tournament remains a success over the years.

Khakhi Diala of the Spur Group said, “Spur Steak Ranches is proud to continue providing opportunities for learners to participate in competitive sport, to lead active lifestyles and to unlock their talent while creating long-lasting memories on the sports field.”

Jono Leaf-Wright from Montrose Primary School has been the organiser of the event from the start and the driving force behind this tournament that now hosts more than 40 sports teams.

The tournament enables developing teams the opportunity to compete against more experienced schools and creates a platform for young up-and-coming South African talent to be discovered.
