Amakhosi come to Moses Mabhida Stadium

JOBURG – Kaizer Chiefs announces the hosting of some of its Absa Premiership matches in Durban.

Hot on the heels of the success of their sojourn to the ‘Cape of Love and Peace’ last season, Kaizer Chiefs will, this season, offer their fans in KwaZulu-Natal the ‘Durban Waves of Love and Peace’.

Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium will be Amakhosi’s alternative home ground for the 2016/17 PSL season. “We are excited to announce the Moses Mabhida Stadium as our alternative home venue for this upcoming season,” said Amakhosi marketing director, Jessica Motaung.

“The stadium and the partnership details ticked the boxes, from brand association to the logistics checklist.”

Amakhosi used Cape Town Stadium as their alternative home base in 2015/16 in what was affectionately named the Cape of Love and Peace.

“The Cape of Love and Peace was awesome,” said Motaung.

“However, we are delighted to now give Durban a chance to host the three selected home games.

“We have always commanded tremendous support in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.” Durban is also known as egagasini, which means the ‘city of waves’ and Amakhosi fans are expected to embrace the ‘Durban Waves of Love and Peace’ as well.

Amakhosi will host three of the 2016/17 Absa Premiership league matches at the magnificent 56 000-seater Moses Mabhida Stadium.

They will host Ajax Cape Town on 15 October with kick-off set for 6pm, new kids on the block Baroka FC on 2 November at 7.30pm and fellow newcomers Highlands Park FC on 18 February at 6pm.

“The anticipation for these games is palpable in the air. The office of our supporters’ club has already been inundated with calls from fans anticipating this announcement,” Motaung said.

She said behind the scenes, work was already fully underway to make these three games a success. “We plan to give the supporters their utmost gold and black experience [in reference to the club’s colours]. We also have good memories from a results perspective in Durban.”

In recent years at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Amakhosi has won the 2015 MTN8 Cup final at the expense of Orlando Pirates, while SuperSport United were on the receiving end in the 2013 Nedbank Cup final.

General manager of the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Vusi Mazibuko, welcomed the news and said stadium management was delighted to bring Chiefs back to the city of Durban.
