Who will eat humble pie?

JOBURG - Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are gearing up for an off-season derby on 30 July.

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are gearing up to face each other in an intriguing off-season match as part of their preparations to start afresh with the addition of new players ahead of the 2016 Carling Black Label Champion Cup at the FNB Stadium on 30 July.

The match, which is one of the highlights of the South African pre-season, will likely provide fans with a first glimpse of the new players to don their famous jerseys and will come after supporters have been starved of live action for two months.

It’s for that reason that tickets are said to be selling like hot cakes for the much-anticipated showpiece fixture that has the extra twist of the supporters taking over as coaches for the day and selecting the starting line-ups of the teams.

But the question is who will be the team to win the bragging rights of the off-season cup. The Buccaneers have won the cup a record three times, while Amakhosi have only had their name engraved on the trophy once.

Amakhosi captain, Siphiwe ‘Shabba’ Tshabalala made it clear at the launch of the 5th edition of the cup competition that his side wanted to end Pirates’ domination of the competition.

“They have won it a record three times and I think that’s enough and this time is our turn. We shall make sure this time around they eat humble pie, come 5pm on 30 July,” Tshabalala said.

The Buccaneers captain was equal to the task. “We shall see at the end of the game who gets to eat humble pie, but what I can promise our supporters out there is that we are aiming at engraving our name on the trophy for the forth time,” retorted Pirates’ attacking midfielder, Oupa Manyisa.

It can safely be said that the stage has been set for a thriller of a game on 30 July and a handful of supporters said they can’t wait to see who the championship team will be.
