Hyde Park cross-country top contenders

HYDE PARK – Hyde Park's senior boys cross-country A-team is kicking up dust in the faces of their competitors.

The Hyde Park High School cross-country team recently participated in an exciting meeting at St Stithians College on 13 May, achieving stellar results to elevate the senior boys A-team to second place on the overall log.

Spokesperson for the school, Avril Wright said, “Hyde Park High School’s senior boys cross-country members are making a reputation for themselves as being the competition to watch out for at school meetings. They run like a well-oiled machine as a team, working together and running to their maximum capacity. Cross-country is not an individual sport and it is this strategy and mindset that is building their success.”

Despite running slower times than usual, Grade 8 pupil Lehlohonolo Ramogale placed fourth individually out of all the junior boys running at this meeting – with an extremely steep and rocky course at St Stithians College made tougher with the densely-wooded terrain.

Wright added, “Other up-and-coming stars in the school team are Tsego Jones, Arkeev Rohit, Joshua Wacks, Penyo Kgokane, Amo Shenxane and Ivanka Pretorius who were all placed in the Top 20 at the St Stithians Trail Run.”

Principal of the school, Manolis Vogiatzis congratulated the cross-country senior boys A-team and commended them on their guts and determination to give of their best at their cross-country and trail-run sporting events.
