Bryanston swimmer makes school proud

BRYANSTON - Bryanston High School has expressed great pride in their Grade 9 pupil, Rogan Shepherd who represented his club at the South African Level Three National Age Group Swimming Championship.

 

The competition was held at Newton Park Pool in Port Elizabeth from 18 to 22 March and saw him take on the tough competition and, in turn, achieve fantastic results.

His mother Mandy Shepherd said, “The competition was very tough this year at Level Three Nationals in Port Elizabeth.”

Spokesperson for Bryanston High School, Lauren Streng said that the star swimmer achieved great results with a few fantastic personal bests and has made the school proud to have him on their swimming team. He also made the finals in a number of the events.

Rogan’s results from the championships:

  •  In the finals, Shepherd came fifth in the 200m boys aged 12 to 14 butterfly in a time of 02:17:21; while in the boys 14-year-old final for 100m butterfly, he came sixth in a time of 01:02:30.
  •  Major personal bests in 400m freestyle with a time of 04:30:55; in the 200m freestyle, a time of 02:07:61; and in 200m backstroke with a time of 02:27:75.

Bryanston High School swimming coach David Hallendorf said, “It is amazing that Rogan is always improving and never giving up. I am proud to teach and have the opportunity to have a talented young gentleman in the swimming squad.”
