Hyde Park sport rocks KZN

HYDE PARK - Hyde Park High School’s rugby, netball and hockey teams travelled to KwaZulu-Natal to compete in the Hillcrest High School Easter Festival.

Though the weather was bad, the Hyde Park High School teams’ performance was good. Manolis Vogiatzis, the school’s principal, congratulated all the players who participated in the tour.

The boys’ and girls’ hockey teams had mixed results winning a few games and coming close in a few.

The girls played against Hillcrest High School, Carter High School and Port Natal. The boys played twice against Hillcrest High School, drawing the first and losing the second game. They also played two games against Carter High School, winning the first game and drawing the second. They lost to Port Natal High School.

Spokesperson for the school Avril Wright said, “The experience was great for the new players and they enjoyed applying their technical hockey skills.

“Our netball squad played very well with some good results and great sportsmanship. They played against Carter High School, Port Natal High School and Hillcrest High School. Their Monday games were called off due to bad weather.”

The rugby team had a very successful tour and beat Carter High School 15-0. In cold and wet conditions the boys played a Hillcrest High School invitational team and ground out a fantastic 8-5 victory.
