River Club paddlers prepare for Dusi challenge

KLIP RIVER – River Club residents, Anthony Mundy-Castle and Christoff Krige, did their community proud following their performance at the two-day Klip River canoe race.

The race is the last event ahead of the upcoming Dusi Canoe Marathon.

Gauteng Canoe Union’s Jennie Dallas said the two finished the race in good time. “Mundy-Castle and Krige finished the Dusi training race in a time of six hours and 26 minutes and had tremendous fun doing it,” she said.

Dallas added that the race, which was 32km long per day, was an important training opportunity as it provided tough, challenging and demanding technical stretches and numerous obstacles to negotiate for the paddlers.

The race also saw a number of paddlers from Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and the Cape take part in the event as the rivers in their regions were not flowing due to the drought.
