SA’s number one female golfer, at 17

BRYANSTON - Fourways resident, Kaleigh Telfer (17), has been ranked South Africa’s number one female golfer.

Telfer, a Grade 11 pupil at the private school, Education Incorporated, discovered her passion for the game at an early age. And by the time she turned 12, Telfer had achieved a single digit handicap and is currently playing off a one.

In 2013, the young golfer was the first woman in the history of Bryanston Country Club to win the club’s prestigious Ladies Club Championship and the Junior Club Championship. She went on to represent South Africa at last year’s Junior Olympics.

Principal of her school, Gershom Aitchison, could not hide her excitement about Telfer’s number-one ranking. “We are extremely proud of you, Kaleigh,” said Aitchison.

“Congratulations on becoming number one. Your dedication to both your sport and your studies is an example to others. Your classmates, teachers and all of us at Education Incorporated are behind you all the way.”

The golf champion does not only excel at golf – she also plays soccer, hockey and cricket.

Last year Telfer was selected to join golf academy, Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation.
