A successful Varsity College Trailblazer cycle race

SANDTON – Varsity College Sandton celebrated a successful Varsity College Trailblazer race.

Oratile Matlapeng, media communications officer for the college said the race was in its second year. “The Varsity College Trailblazer race proved to be another one of the institution’s prominent and popular events,” he added.

Matlapeng said, this year, more than 500 participants joined the race from the age of six and upwards, from all walks of life and levels of experience. Participants all signed up for the event held at the Ride-Free Bike Park, Central Parks Trail.

“I am very pleased with this year’s event,” said Varsity College Sandton’s senior deputy principal for marketing, Victor Menoita.

Matlapeng added that the course was found to be quite challenging by participants. “The woods were filled with ramps, bridges and adrenaline-filled slopes,” he said.

“The last 5km began on a long inclination that finally led to the last downhill stretch of 2km to the finish line.”

He said the event generated attention regionally and had sparked interest in other provinces, and the institution expected that the race would gain national focus in years to follow.
