Nominations have opened for the prestigious Gauteng Sports Awards which will take place on 11 October.
The nomination process for the awards, which aim to recognise, celebrate and reward excellence among the remarkable men and women in the sporting fraternity, opened on 30 July and will close on 26 August.
Speaking at the launch, MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation Molebatsi Bopape said the awards nominations were open to sportsmen and women who excelled in their various sporting codes between 1 June last year and 31 May this year.
“We want to honour the sportsmen and women who made our province proud and thereby entrench Gauteng as the home of champions and the biggest contributor of sporting personalities in the whole country.”
Bopape also announced that a signature event for the arts industry was on its way. “Most of you [media] seem to think we’re only concerned about sports and we would like to dispel that notion by introducing this event.
“It will be a signature event and no one will be allowed in with a T-shirt and takkies, hence you can now start talking to dress designers and stylists, as this will be a high-profile event for outstandingly dressed men and women,” she said.
