Seals impress at Gauteng junior swimming champs

BENMORE – Two members from the Sandton Seals Swimming Club recently impressed with their stellar performance at the Gauteng Junior Short Course Winter Championships when they brought home a total of nine medals.

 

Four squad members took part in the championships, but Gina Miller and Michael Geere’s performances stood out, with 12-year-old Miller bringing in four gold medals and three silver, and 13-year-old Geere bringing in two bronze.

The two also won various ribbons at the event which took place in Boksburg, adding to their already impressive performances. Kyle Macmillan, the swimming club’s coach, expressed pride at the duo’s performance.

“We are extremely proud of the excellent performance of our junior swimmers at this gala, [and] to show such great results at the first gala of the season is an excellent achievement and puts them on a strong footing for the rest of the season,” he said.

He also praised all four members who participated for enduring the cold weather and representing the club well.

The junior championships ran from 1 to 2 August at the Boksburg North Swimming Pool and is hosted specifically for competitive swimmers aged 13 and under from the various swimming clubs across Gauteng.
