Canoeists face white water challenge

SANDTON - The Floria Lake Canoe Club hosted a 30km river race on the Klip River, giving new paddlers much-needed insight into the canoeing world, including Bryanston resident Shakir Dudhia who teamed up with master paddler Warren Ziervogel.

The race started in Daleside and ended in Meyerton.

Spokesperson for the Gauteng Canoe Union, Jennie Dallas, said the programme provides an opportunity for new paddlers to gain the experience needed for A grade status in order to be able to compete in major national events such as the Fish River Marathon, or Dusi in due course.

Ziervogel and Dudhia enjoyed a wild white water ride through the turbulent rapids and finished in a time of 02.25.00.
