Six-a-side tournament excites in Bryanston

BRYANSTON - PITTING five of some of the best primary schools against each other in epic clashes, the Bryanston Primary School’s Six-a-Side tournament was a success.

Participating schools included the hosts, Bryaneven, Bryandale, Montrose and Crawford Preparatory Sandton.

The tournament which has been running for 48 years, saw the hosts playing against four other Sandton schools in various netball and soccer matches.

Aleeshan Moodley, the head of department for sport at the school said since its inception, the tournament had grown tremendously over the years.

“The tournament was founded by a gentleman who attended and worked at the school and it was a way to promote sports amongst our pupils,” he said.

“It’s also an opportunity for sports development, something we put a lot of focus into at the school.”

Moodley added that initially the tournament only included soccer, where teams would compete in knock-out matches, but 14 years ago it was decided to include netball too.

“The turnout to this tournament is massive and we have also included fun activities for younger kids, ensuring a fun-filled event for the entire family,” he said.
