Top bowlers make Bryanston Sports Club proud

BRYANSTON - Two Bryanston Sports Club members represented the Johannesburg Bowls Association at the Bowls South Africa Inter-Provincial Tournament.

Tony Mazaris, a member of the club’s committee said Prince Neluonde and Victor Siphali competed in a round robin in two sections of 10 teams. He explained that each team consisted of eight players, of which there were two sides of four players. Mazaris added that the winner from each section then played in the final and, fortunately, both the teams made it through to the finals.

Neluonde played for the open team in Durban, while Siphali was a member of the B team and he played in Pretoria. Both Bryanston Sports Club bowlers received silver medals for their performances.

Neluonde was the first black player to represent South Africa and was rewarded with a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. Both bowlers are currently members of Bowls South Africa Gold Squad, an elite group of the top 16 players throughout the country.
