Sandton Park FC receives dugouts

SANDTON - The Sandton Park Football Club (SPFC) were the proud recipients of sports shelter dugouts, all aimed at improving the conditions of the soccer fields.

The dugouts were sponsored by Coprox International and will allow players a place to sit while the games are in progress.

Nick Vujovic, media relations officer at MDV Public Relations, explained how the football club received the donation.

“Marco Martini, chairman of the SPFC, appealed to organisations to contribute to the improvement of the fields, all in the spirit of encouraging children from disadvantaged backgrounds to play sports,” he said.

He also said the club leased the fields from Sandown High School and, in turn, upgraded and revamped them; a project that has been on-going for a few years.

Other improvements included the installation of irrigation systems, lights and the provision of cushioning for the poles around the fields.

Vujovic praised the work done and added that such an initiative benefited underprivileged children from communities such as Alexandra and other areas.

“Another example of a sponsorship that benefits these children is the sponsor from Mega Bus, which arranges transport for the under privileged kids to get them to their away games,” he said.

He added that Saxport was the main sponsor of the improvements, something the football club was grateful for.

The handover of the dugouts took place early in September at the school.
