Girls soccer league off to a new term

SANDTON - The Janine van Wyk Girls Football Development league is off to another exciting start as it commenced on 31 July.

The league, in its third year, will see 30 teams from various schools participating in the soccer tournament, all in the hopes of clinching victory.

Lauren Duncan, spokesperson for the league explained the growth of the league and the reason it was begun in 2012.

“Janine began the league as a way to expose and raise the profile of girls competing at school level,” Duncan explained.

She said the league had “grown in leaps and bounds over the past two years, with over eight new schools having joined the league recently”.

The league will run until 11 September.

Schools participating in the league include Crawford College Lonehill, Crawford College Sandton, Greenside High, Parktown Girls and Sandringham High.
