Countdown to the Hansa Fish Canoe Marathon

BRYANSTON - A Bryanston couple will participate at the Hansa Fish Canoe Marathon in the Eastern Cape.

With only three months left to prepare, learner river paddlers are desperate to obtain their river proficiency and complete the required qualifying races to participate at the major A grade river marathon.

The Gauteng representative for Hansa at South African Breweries (SAB), Delamaine du Toit has not let the icy chill deter him and his partner Samantha Boustred.

The Bryanston couple have been high-fiving as they surfaced from their chilly swims, full of smiles and loving the challenges despite the low Gauteng temperatures.

The Gauteng Canoe Union’s transformation programme has resulted in numerous highly skilled and previously disadvantaged canoeists gaining the experience needed.

The unemployed are being supported by the race sponsors to gain the points needed to qualify. The learners are also being taught how to manage the technically tricky rapids by the race sponsors.
