If you’re not doing these three things then you should quit sales

Mentalist and businessman, Gilan Gork, shares his insight.

When people see me decoding someone’s thoughts in a mentalist feat, they often come up to me afterwards and say they’d like to be able to do the same thing. But that’s not what they’re really saying. What they mean is that they’d like to be able to do what I do so long as it’s easy and, most importantly, they can learn it quickly.

You know that significant skills are not developed in a day. You can’t go to a single seminar under the impression that you’ll be zapped by a plethora of knowledge in microwaves and suddenly walk out as a successful, influential salesperson. Skills are developed gradually, over time.

Are you taking courses, reading books, attending seminars, talking to a coach, or anything else that will help you develop the specific skill set you need to be successful? Or, are you hoping to develop these skills through random, default experience?

1. Deliberately develop your skill set. This includes attending courses, reading, watching helpful videos and listening to informative Podcasts. Do at least one or more of these daily.

2. Know your ‘vital signs’. Make sure you know how many calls you need to make daily, to keep your sales alive and to reach your weekly and monthly goals. Start your day with the task you’re likely to avoid most!

3. Be kind to yourself. Learn to enjoy the journey of reaching your targets, instead of always waiting for targets to be hit before allowing yourself to enjoy life! You’re always either winning or learning.
