Four Johannesburg Water staff thanked

PARKMORE – A resident from Parkmore writes to thank the municipality that came to their rescue:

I would like to thank the four amazing staff from the municipality that came to the rescue on 17 October.
We have so much respect for those who work on sewerage systems and dig deep underground in small dark smelly tunnels to ensure our homes are not overflowing with raw sewage.

This particular team had to dig and open up four manholes on four properties on one main road, taking up to four hours.

This was to assess where the blockage was which was causing the overflow in the gardens. Roots, trees and plastic items can cause havoc.

Going house to house to find the problem is not easy when people are not home to open up.

A neighbour said, “I was really impressed with their service. They are very skilled and fit to be able to do their work. I have so much respect for the teams that work in such conditions.

“I wonder if the ordinary citizen actually knows what it looks like under their house and if they had the stomach to clean it themselves. I don’t think they [workers] could ever be paid enough for what they do.

“Thank you to the kind neighbour that served the team a tray filled with cool drinks on ice. Wish more people could be so gracious.”
