Shut down canned lion hunting

GAUTENG – Captured in Africa is determined to get the attention of the Department of Environmental Affairs when it comes to canned lion hunting and they shared a letter with the Sandton Chronicle.

Paul Tully, the sales and marketing manager of Captured in Africa, wrote an e-mail to the Department of Environmental Affairs and is determined to create awareness regarding lion breeding and captive lion hunting.

Tully shared the following e-mail with the Sandton Chronicle: “Please view the following post from my colleague, Drew Abrahamson, concerning the lion breeder [name omitted], who is breeding for captive lion hunting, aka canned hunting, in deplorable conditions.

“It’s come to light that he also has wild dogs on his farm – an endangered and protected species.

The following images and video are shocking but should be watched:

“Ms Molewa is very passionate for wildlife and is often heard stating how good South Africa’s wildlife conservation efforts are. Sadly when you have such blatant disregard for wildlife as the above breeder, then no, South Africa does not have good wildlife management and conservation. In fact, the lion breeding and captive hunting industry is a complete mess and embarrassment to South Africa.

“Our non-profit foundation is based in Johannesburg, where myself and colleagues, Drew and Stephanie, work tirelessly to raise awareness and campaign against this sordid, cruel and barbaric industry where lions are treated as livestock and as per the above link [to the breeder]… are treated with such contempt and blatant disregard.

“This is a moment for your department to stamp such unethical people and farms out. To send a clear warning and message that such conditions for wildlife will not be tolerated. Will you do that?

“You have an opportunity and we hope you would withdraw this person’s permits and help ensure better, more responsible care for wildlife and lions. To see lions be bred for hunting is deplorable, yet you are currently supporting it. I beg of you to intervene in this matter urgently.”
