Maids and gardeners of Sandton speak out

Maids and gardeners of Sandton write: We are a group of maids and gardeners who feel not much is being reported or said in the community newspaper about us.

We always read the achievements of the police and pupils from the schools in Sandton, which is a good thing, but what about us? Does anybody care how we are treated in the mansions? Whether the treatment is good or bad, it still makes up the Sandton community.

One particular house at the Sandown Estate, where the gardener sweeps the roof every week, the boss lady does not like to see her employees speak to or even greet people. We are people too who have families and feelings just like everyone else.

We are the eyes and ears of this community, so we ask that, once in a while, people should take time to ask how we are. We might not be privileged enough to go schools and obtain degrees to afford the houses we work in, but we are good at what we do, and form part of the society as well.

Tell Sandton Chronicle, in the comments below, how you feel about the views expressed in the letter. What important roles do maids and gardeners in the community play?
