All guilty without key points list
THE Right2Know Campaign and the SA History Archive have served the Ministers of Police and Defence with court papers to gain access to a list of national key points.
In terms of the law, South Africans may not know where and what national key points are.
Airports for instance are known as designated national key points, among with other hundreds of sites.
After Madiba was discharged from hospital and returned to his Houghton home, the media contingent looking to be the first with updates on the legend’s health was instructed to keep well away from the house.
The reason was that as it turned out, Madiba’s house had been declared national key point too.
As matters stand, the ministers may declare any place to be a national key point, giving it special security and excessive secrecy for national security reasons.
This means holiday makers taking photographs, journalists and members of the community may be breaking the law daily by exposing key point without realising it.
It should never really be up to the courts to decide; national key points must be listed, finish and klaar.
