Free facilities at Sandton Library

Sandton - Conveniently located on Nelson Mandela Square, the Sandton Library has something for everyone.

The Sandton Library, located on Nelson Mandela Square, offers the public a host of free facilities and a large variety of reading material, said Margaret Houliston, library and information services manager for Region E.

Houliston added that the Sandton Library has separate sections for children, adults, reference and study. “It has seating for almost 200,” she said.

“Although the library does have material for all ages and interests, it has a few comprehensive collections which are a philatelic [stamp] collection; arts, craft and design; and a study and business collection.

“The library receives four daily newspapers and four Sunday newspapers, and there are 12 computers with Internet access for the public to use at no cost, however, there is a charge for printing.”

There is a children’s story hour every Saturday at 10am and for the chess lovers, the library offers chess sessions on Saturdays from 10am.

The library is open Monday to Thursday from 9am to 6pm, Wednesdays from 1pm to 6pm (but is closed every first Wednesday morning of the month), Friday from 9am to 5.00pm and Saturday from 9am to 1pm.

During the colder months of May, June, July and August, Johannesburg public libraries which usually close at 6pm will close at 5.30pm.
