VOX POP: Do you trust political figures enough to vote for them next year?

Do you think apathy or mistrust in the main political parties will affect the 2024 elections?

Sandton locals and businesspeople were asked if they believed that either mistrust in the main political parties or apathy would affect next year’s elections. Here is what they had to say…

Barbara Eksteen: Trust, absolutely. You can’t trust anybody because everyone has got an opinion, and everybody says they want to make this work, but nothing happens.

Liam Eksteen: The mistrust. Definitely. I believe there is a shift in power. Oftentimes we see how a lot of people abuse that power. There is a big thing where trust needs to be implemented. It’s not just about people saying one thing and doing the other, I think actions do speak louder than words.

Dineo Motshoane: Yes, predominantly towards the youth. The youth have become quite reluctant to be involved within everything that is politics related, or anything that is democratic related. I do think that will have a pivotal impact on next year’s vote.

Darren Hayter: Yeah, I think that’s got a big role to play in everyone’s ultimate decision in who they’re going to vote for. People should take things into consideration, not just be nonchalant about it, and hopefully that can lead to a positive change for all of us.
