World Cleanup Day commemorated

Home to an impressive 1070 trees, the Field & Study Park is cherished as an area of critical biodiversity within the built-up Sandton area, playing a key role in maintaining ecosystem functioning.

Friends of the Field and Study Park, residents and enthusiastic learners from Redhill, King David Victory Park, St Teresa’s and St Stithians got their hands dirty on World Cleanup Day on September 16.

According to the chairperson of the non-profit organisation Rose Johnson, the clean-up focused on the Braamfontein Spruit, which winds through the heart of the park.

“The mission was clear – to remove debris found in the river, from abandoned shoes to plastic cups and more.”

She added there was a wonderful spirit and camaraderie between everyone working together to make a difference.

“Thanks to everyone’s hard work, the river has undergone a remarkable transformation, providing clean water for park-goers to enjoy and a haven for the delightful young family of four ducklings.”

She gave a special thanks to security firm CAP whose Green Team lent a hand during the day of environmental action.
