Breaking through barriers and making women tech industry leaders

According to Maunatlala, women bring a unique perspective and set of skills to the tech industry.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) South Africa, an IIIovo-based company, is embarking on an innovation-fuelled journey in the tech world to empower women in the industry.

The rocket-fuelled journey is to smash barriers towards diversity and gender equality in the tech industry.

Retail and CPG consulting head at TCS Bronwen Rohland said while men have long held the spotlight, a dazzling surge reveals women claiming their stake in tech’s boundless domain.

“The tech industry has proven to be an enabler for greater gender equality. The sector is making strides to bridge the gender gap, create more inclusive opportunities, and invest in support for women already building a career in technology.”

Rohland said that as one of the largest employers of women globally, they strive to provide an equitable workplace for all.

“We recognise the significance of diverse perspectives in driving innovation. Empowerment is not just a buzzword; it is a commitment to workplace policies, zero tolerance for discrimination, and an inclusive culture that together form a nurturing ecosystem for women in tech to grow and reach leadership positions.”

She added that in the pursuit of inclusivity and diversity, TCS’s initiatives, such as the inclusive leadership development programme ‘Leadership and Diversity’, provide access for women on a global scale.

“By offering personalised career mobility and opportunities across the world, we look to empower women to break through barriers and make their mark as industry leaders.”

Maunatlala, a system engineer assistant at TCS, explained the various programmes that celebrate the achievements of women and offer networking, mentoring, and professional development that focus on encouraging girls and young women to pursue careers in Stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields.

“As TCS expands its technological capabilities, women form an integral part of ensuring these fields are successful, sustainable, and, most importantly, impactful.”

She concluded by saying that women bring a unique perspective and set of skills to the tech industry.
